What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free tool from Google that allows you to collect a lot of data about your website visitors. This tool should be installed on every website. Too often, we still meet entrepreneurs who can't even control how many visitors their website has each month. But if you don't even know that, how can you turn your website into a powerful tool that constantly reaches new prospects? By installing Google Analytics, you get access to all the data you need to constantly improve your website and measure your marketing efforts.

What can you measure with it?

Measuring a lot of relevant data provides important insights.
For example, the following are measured:

  • how do visitors end up on my website? (after entering search terms? clicking on a link when visiting another website? Adwords? via social media, direct entry of the website address?)
  • do visitors come back after a first visit? How many times?
  • how many new and returning visitors do I have per day, per week, per month... and is this more or less than in a previous comparable period?
  • How long do visitors stay on my website?
  • How many and which pages are visited per session and for how long?
  • What is the bounce rate? (bounce: click away very quickly, leave the website without taking any action)
  • how many visits lead to promotions (contact, request a quote, subscribe to the newsletter, new account created, added to the cart, purchase...)
  • What is the ratio of mobile to laptop/PC visits?
  • What age groups visit my website?
  • What is the geographical distribution of my visitors
  • (Language-related? Regional? International: Europe, US...?)
  • For example, how do advertising campaigns, adding new products, new blog content, etc. affect the number of visitors and their behavior?

The goal: more visitors and more actions

The information collected and the statistical analysis may result in:

  • adapting parts of the website to the visitor's behavior
  • setting up advertising campaigns.
